PLEA is now a branch of the Kansas Recreation and Park Association. Our annual conference was held in Topeka January 26-28, 2010. Chair-Elect Josh DeHoux moved up to branch chair for the next two years.
Conference training sessions included:
An update on interoperability and information on how the MOTOBRIDGE allows patching of radios together from multiple agencies operating on multiple frequencies;
An update on training and credentialing of persons administering standardized field sobriety testing;
Criminal Interdiction;
An explanation of the makeup of Emergency Incident Management Teams, and how they can be utilized in a disaster situation;
Dealing with trespassers in state and local parks;
A roundtable discussion with members of print, radio, and television news to discuss how we can benefit each other.
The 2011 conference is scheduled in Wichita Feb. 1-3.
I had the pleasure of attending the PLEA conference in San Antonio this spring. Capt. Ray Castro and his staff did an outstanding job putting it together.
I’m very sad to report that one of our members, Luke Nihart, a Park Ranger with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, was killed in an on-duty accident on June 26, 2011. A link to his obituary is included. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/cjonline/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=143822974 are currently creating content for this section. In order to be able to keep up with our high standards of service, we need a little more time. Please stop by again. Thank you for your interest!
