Curtis Reynolds Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, De - On Monday July 25th, Cpl. Keith Betts and Park Patrol Officer Curtis Reynolds were foot patrolling the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park on the Delaware Bay. They heard screams for help at the end of the pier and investigated to find an elderly woman in the water clinging to a rubber tube. The 69 year-old woman was clamming and had gotten into deep water. She was physically exhausted and clinging to the tube. Park Patrol Officer Reynolds jumped off the pier and swam to the victim while Cpl. Betts started emergency personnel. An off duty Amity Township Pennsylvania Police Officer was on the pier at the time and observed what was happening. He jumped over the side of the pier as well and assisted Park Patrol Officer Reynolds in bringing the subject to shallow water. Had it not been for the heroic efforts of Park Patrol Officer Reynolds the woman would have drown within minutes. His quick actions and disregard for his own safety saved the life of a person who had come to the park for a day of recreation. Park Patrol Officer Curtis Reynolds has been a Seasonal Park Patrol Officer for Delaware State Parks for two seasons and is pursuing a degree at Slippery Rock University in Parks and Recreation Management. On Friday August 12th Park Patrol Officer Reynolds was recognized for his actions with a Lifesaving Award in a small ceremony at Cape Henlopen State Park.
